Walking tours are always a fun way to explore. Depending on what your preference is, you have the option of self-guided tours that move at your own pace or guided tours that provide more in-depth information. Tour maps and brochures are available at the Oconee Welcome Center now located at 1070 Founders Blvd. in the William Daniell House.
DOWNTOWN HISTORICAL WALKING TOUR | Take a stroll down Main street and learn about the history & architecture of Watkinsville from the early 1800s.
SELF-GUIDED: Step back in time with this self-guided tour. This tour will take walkers through the streets of Watkinsville, GA, and transport them to the 1800s with information about Antebellum history, including current and former buildings and residents. Pick up your self-guided tour map at Outpost Oconee, Chris Greer Studio & Gallery, and Empire South.
GUIDED TOUR: By appointment only. This tour will take you down Main street with guides in period-time attire who have a true passion for southern history. Your guide will bring to life some of the best local stories and legends that will make your visit to Oconee unforgettable. WATKINSVILLE HAUNTED HISTORY TOUR | Available in the Fall: Enjoy learning about the spirited past while taking a spooky walk through downtown Watkinsville with your tour guide, Jeff Clarke. Jeff is a folklorist/local historian who has appeared in the series ‘The American Revolution” on the Discovery Channel as well as the Travel Channel series ‘Tales of Terror – Historical Hauntings’.
