Take a glimpse back in time, during the era of the Mound Builders in the Oconee River Watershed. This lecture will explore the people, their customs, the ecology and history of this region during the time period (750-1540 AD) that inspired the making of this “Old Door” Map.
Oconee Joe, a Certified Master Naturalist and the only professional river guide on the Oconee river shares his vast knowledge of the ecology and history of the Oconee River basin through paddle trips, boat rides and lectures throughout the region.
“Using this map as a basis for my talks, I will set out to explore the Oconee River from the headwaters, the Fall Line, and beyond…
Each week I will be delivering a new set of historical events, stories, and cultures from different time periods that have come to pass along the Oconee River. I will be pulling out all the stops in this series, telling all the secrets, and sharing with those in attendance my collective knowledge of living on the Oconee River and the wisdom that I have learned from the Ancients that have come before me…”
