History of Oconee

Sit back and relax and enjoy episode one, “The History of Oconee County, GA”. This episode will take you back in time to learn about the original settlers of this community. You will also hear stories from different locals about their family roots in the county and why they have called this place home for generations. This is the first of many episodes to come. We hope you enjoy learning a bit more about this wonderful town we call “home”.

Episode One

The William Daniell house built circa 1790 by Revolutionary War Veteran William Daniell is located at 1070 Founders Blvd. The house was placed on the Historical Register in 1995.

The Oconee County Welcome Center has been given the opportunity to potentially move to this historic home, once again making it accessible to our community and visitors.

While the Tourism & Visitors Bureau Board has voted to explore the potential move, as with any historic home there are updates and logistics that need to be established. We are in that process now and are excited to perhaps add another Oconee treasure to our existing attractions. Stay tuned…
