Summer Fun at Eagle Tavern

Children ages three through third grade are invited to step back in time to Watkinsville and the Eagle Tavern in the early 1800’s. Each session’s activities will demonstrate aspects of daily life for children on the Georgia frontier and will include hands on learning, a take-home craft, and tours of Eagle Tavern.

Know Your Food

July 8th, 2:00 – 4:00pm

Families living on the frontier had to provide for themselves using gardening, animal husbandry, hunting, and gathering skills.  Come and explore the ways that frontier children helped their families to grow, gather, and prepare food.  You might even learn some skills to use at your house!

Survival Skills

July 22nd, 2:00-4:00pm

In the early 1800’s, individuals left the comforts of home and family to build homes, farms, and businesses on the frontier.  Survival skills were required to travel to these new areas and seek out homesteads.  Learn about travel, setting up camp, and basic tools that all frontiersmen kept in their traveling kits.
